Canberra

I asked one of our club members to snap some photos around the foreshore on Sunday, in the lead up to the Sunday afternnoon race. These are the results.

Only 2 Farrs were racing, 'Farr too Easy' and 'Finesse', plus about 16 other trailersailors. My wife, Barbara, and I own 'Finesse'. Its one of the few locally manufactured Farr 6s around. The latter are distinguished by a sliding hatch (as well as pop top) and a built-in ice box. On Sunday we had our 17 year old daughter Renee on board.

The club is the Canberra Yacht Club. You'll see our control tower, although for Sunday races we have an 'on the water start' with generally a 'tower finish'.

The unfinished building you can see in the background to one photo is the new National Museum of Australia, due for completion in 4 months.

St Georges Basin
From Lyndon Rea "Gypsy Caterpillar" T2541

We live approx. 100 Kilometers south of Sydney NSW on the Shoalhaven River near Nowra. It is salt water and quite navigable for about 30 Kilometers in our boat when it then becomes a bit narrow and unsuitable for sail but still OK under outboard.

We also sail at St Georges Basin a large lake which accesses the Pacific Ocean. The Basin is about 40 Kilometers south. Whenever we go there we usually stay on board for a couple of days. Our sailing season generally runs from September to end of May but because of our mild Winters you can sail all year round if you can spare the time! I have attempted to scan three photos taken on a Farr 6000 camp we enjoyed at the Basin last Summer.

There were seven Farr 6000s and a couple of 16' Princess. Our boat, 'Gypsy Caterpillar' is blue and is second blue boat in the photos.

Sydney Area
From Vicki and Phill Cunningham, Farr 6000 "TIVAMP"

The first photo was taken at the Basin at Pittwater in January 2000. Our four children are preparing to jump off and go for a swim. The other three photos were taken on Fitzroy Falls Dam where we are members of the Southern Highlands Sailing Club. One photo was taken on a misty Sunday, conditions which are not unusual in this part of the world!

Fitzroy Falls Dam is in the Southern Highlands near Bowral which is about 100 km south of Sydney. We sail there in the summer months (its is too cold in the winter!) and experience all types of conditions which often inspires us to comment, with apologies to Crowded House, Four Seasons in One Day!

Sending you a photo of Waituna, a good NZ name. We were at Coffin Bay last Easter. Coffin Bay is about 700 km's from Adelaide the other side of Port Lincoln It is a fantastic place for T/S's. Sheltered water and lots of bays and places to shelter. Coffin Bay Yacht Club sails dinghies, they are slowly taking an interest in T/S's.

The Milang to Goolwa Freshwater Classic is a major event on the South Australia trailer yachting calendar regularly attracting huge fleets from all over Australia. It is reputedly the largest freshwater yacht race in the world with up to 500 yachts. More information can be found at the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club page
