In unseasonable weather for Napier 11 boats contested
the championship. An 8 race three day regatta was planned.
Day one saw winds of up to 40 knots from the west and
in a very rare move the Napier Sailing Club cancelled
all classes of racing. So it was to the Bar or up Town
shopping.
Day Two morning still had Westerly but down to about
15 Knots. The fleet went out at last keen to do battle.
By the time of the start wind was up to 20 gusting to
25 but no one was keen to be first to put in a reef.
Two races were sailed in the AM and by lunch winds were
gusting well over 25 knots and racing was pretty much
in survival mode. Mariska sailed well in the conditions
but also Kotuku who were only 2 up.
By the time of the afternoon races the wind was gusting
to 47 knots and the class made the decision not to sail
( many were licking wounds and damage from the morning.)
Day three and the wind had dropped. All four races were
raced in 7-15 Knots west in morning changing to nor/east
by lunch.
Temptress was the big improver ( Changed to his old
main) but once again Mariska sailed very well and the
boat which has only been in Napier since the beginning
of the season fully deserved a comfortable series victory.
Thanks to all sponsors especially Doyle Sailmakers and
the Farr Trailer Yacht Association
