Farr 740's performed really well in the Milang to Goolwa Freshwater Classic in the River Murray Lakes in South Australia on the January (Australia Day) long weekend This is the premier long distance trailer sailer event in SA and one of the top in Australia for numbers competing with about 300 sails on the water.

Five 740's started and five finished in what was a heavy race with 25knots southerly and squally rough conditions.

Here are the top 20 results (from 42 finishers in class) in the Fast Racing Class (with spinnakers). I provide the 20 to show the level of competition on the day. There were more Elliott 780's etc that did not make in to the top 20.

Two Farr 740's made the top ten, Slartibartfarrst (T. Gluyas) 4th; and Oh Really! (M. O'Reilly) 8th; followed by Betta Bi Farr (T. Colliver) in 11th. Cachet (W. Cornell) 32nd and Aqua (J. Woodhead) 34th. See also that a Farr 7500 Vintage Red (D. Howard) was 10th

Additionally, in the Friday night invitation only "Go For Gold" dash for the 24 fastest boats/skippers pre the Milang to Goolwa weekend, Oh Really! missed out on the Gold Bullion by a slim 1 sec. from a dead heat first between a local race-tuned riverboat Dolphin (J. Veenstra) and Blaze, an optimised Blazer (D. Smallacombe).

Finalists included trendy new carbon fibre rockets like Elliott ESPX 780, an Elliott 780 Escape, Spider 22 and other such light and fast boats. Another Farr 740, Aqua, made it through to the final but was not in the top finishers.

Against the odds in dropping light airs and a troubled start, the Farr 740 Oh Really! steadily passed half the fleet over the next 40 minutes - making the most of a brand new Doyle Fraser spinnaker delivered from Brisbane that morning!

Regrettably in Sunday's long distance race there were no spinnaker legs due to wind direction - with a blasting 25 knot southerly! But the 740's loved the heavy going and 2 finished in the top 10.
