Farr 740's performed really well in the Milang to Goolwa
Freshwater Classic in the River Murray Lakes in South
Australia on the January (Australia Day) long weekend
This is the premier long distance trailer sailer event
in SA and one of the top in Australia for numbers competing
with about 300 sails on the water.
Five 740's started and five finished in what was a
heavy race with 25knots southerly and squally rough
conditions.
Here are the top 20 results (from 42 finishers in class)
in the Fast Racing Class (with spinnakers). I provide
the 20 to show the level of competition on the day.
There were more Elliott 780's etc that did not make
in to the top 20.
Two Farr 740's made the top ten, Slartibartfarrst (T.
Gluyas) 4th; and Oh Really! (M. O'Reilly) 8th; followed
by Betta Bi Farr (T. Colliver) in 11th. Cachet (W. Cornell)
32nd and Aqua (J. Woodhead) 34th. See also that a Farr
7500 Vintage Red (D. Howard) was 10th
Additionally, in the Friday night invitation only "Go
For Gold" dash for the 24 fastest boats/skippers
pre the Milang to Goolwa weekend, Oh Really! missed
out on the Gold Bullion by a slim 1 sec. from a dead
heat first between a local race-tuned riverboat Dolphin
(J. Veenstra) and Blaze, an optimised Blazer (D. Smallacombe).
