Farr Yacht Design was founded in 1982 by Russell Bowler and Bruce Farr with the objective to promote and sell boats, and designs produced by Farr Yacht Design. Russell Bowler is currently the President of Farr Yacht Design Ltd.

The Farr 740 was originally built by Sea Nymph in New Zealand. We now know that there are Farr 740 Sports moulds in storage at Austral Yachts, Hackham, S.A. and the Farr 7500 moulds are controlled by Binks Yachts of Somerton Park, S.A.

Michael Keough, the proprietor of Austral  Yachts says the Farr 740 Sport deck mould has suffered "a buckle" in the cockpit area - but it is not a write off as suggested earlier by some observers.

At one stage it was mooted that Farr Clubman's would be built (this is in the days prior to the Austral Clubman 8; a Farr 740 Sports hull with a Farr 7500 deck) but it never got off the ground.

David Hogg, a boat builder in South Australia has the mould for the Farr 740 Sports keel if anyone is ever interested in replacing their keels.
