Accaela 4 was built in Italy in 1991 by CBZ, producer
of the FARR 740 in Italy nowdays.
Alessandro's boat was partially customized during construction
to improve the performance of the lifting keel version
in heavy wind and upwind. The keel is standard profile
with a terminal lead bulb added. The draft is 55 centimeters
with the keel lifted and even 191 when it is all down!
The weight of the keel is 450 kg and it makes it a bit
hard to lift. The bronze sheaves on the keel have been
changed with 3 hi load harken 3041 Air blocks.
The spar is equipped with a pair of aft swept spreaders
and a jumper. In 1996 Alessandro changed the rigging,
originally of 4 mm with a stronger 5 mm cable and 5/16
turnbuckles for hi and low shrouds and 4.76 mm Dyform
for the forestay.
He has added two kevlar running backstays, "not
really necessary". The reduction of mast pumping
upwind with short wave has been great.
In 11 years of use, after 10,000 miles, the boat is
still in very good condition. The only problems have
been infiltrations of water from the windows, that he
has changed and a crack on the backplate of the T terminal
of the right lower shroud that was fortunately discovered
before dismasting!
The boat usually sails in Gulf of Follonica, just near
the base of Prada America's cup italian team.
